ในปัจจุบัน มีการใช้กล้องดิจิตอล (Digital Camera) เพื่อเก็บภาพประทับใจต่างๆ กันมากขึ้น ทำให้มีความต้องการโปรแกรมสำหรับใช้ในการจัดการภาพ เปิดดูภาพ หรือแปลงฟอร์แมตของภาพ เป็นผลต่อเนื่องตามมา
สำหรับโปรแกรมจัดการภาพดิจิตอลนั้น มีให้เลือกมากมายหลายโปรแกรม ถ้าเป็นโปรแกรมเชิงพาณิชย์ซึ่งต้องเสียเงินซื้อที่ได้รับความนิยมในอันดับต้นๆ คือ ACDsee แต่ถ้าต้องการแบบฟรีแวร์ก็มีให้เลือกมากมายหลายตัว แต่ตัวที่จะนำมาแนะนำวันนี้คือ XnView ซึ่งมีฟังก์ชันการทำงานไม่แพ้ ACDsee เลยทีเดียว โดยเวอร์ชันที่เสถียร (Stable) ในปัจจุบัน คือ XnView 1.97.1 ออกวันที่ 26 กุมภาพันธ์ 2553
